Within the Department of Science and Technology for Environment and Territory of the University of Molise the Laboratory of Forest Ecology and Geomatics works in the following research fields:

(a) applied geomorphology, thematic cartography, and geographical information systems,

(b) dendro-chronological studies,;

(c) ecology and management of forest resources,

(d) environmental microbiology and bioremediation,

(e) forest fires assessment and modeling, and

(f) economic assessment of natural resources.

STAT participation mainly refers to decision support systems for integrated forest management (WP 2) and to policy analysis and foresight for integrated forest management (WP 3).

Considering the three case study areas in Italy, STAT will:

  • analyze landscape at local level in ecological/technical terms,
  • build future-oriented scenarios of integrated forest management at the landscape level, and
  • implement policy tools in forest management options.

Moreover, landscape will be analyzed in social, political, and economical terms as well as a participatory scenario at the landscape level will be developed.
