The Center for Futures Studies being part of the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences is the only institution for futures studies, which is part of a university in Austria.

The focus of research activities revolves around issues of social, economic, and health sciences. Moreover, a special emphasis is put on the subject area "quality of life". The team of the Center stems from various academic disciplines:

 

(a)   Educational sciences,

(b)   Communication and Information sciences,

(c)   Political sciences, psychology, sociology, cultural anthropology, and

(d)   Economics and business administration.

 

The FHS leads participatory scenario development (WP 3.2) and will also be involved in policy back-casting for integrated forest management (WP 3.3). Its activities include development of scenarios as well as support and training of the project research partners with regard to epistemic and methodological grounds of futures studies.
